JASP is available for Mac OS X, version 10.12 (Sierra) and above (Which version do I have?). Apple does not support macOS 10.11 and below anymore. For these older OS’s, it is possible to download JASP 0.9.2. JASP is installed by downloading and double clicking the .dmg file, and dragging the JASP icon to the Applications folder. This places JASP in your applications folder.

JASP is a cross-platform software program which allows you to conduct statistical analyses in seconds, and without having to learn programming or risking a programming mistake. It aims to be a complete statistical package for both Bayesian and Frequentist statistical methods, that is easy to use and familiar to users of SPSS. Here's how to download, install, and open files in JASP. I illustrate on a Windows 10 computer, but I give some guidance as to how to install on a Mac as wel. JASP was created as “a low fat alternative to SPSS, a delicious alternative to R,” and comes out of the University of Amsterdam (presumably at lower cost than buying SPSS). JASP is not yet at version 1 and may be used with caution; it also requires the free XQuartz window environment. JASP is a free and open-source graphical program for statistical analysis, designed to be easy to use, and familiar to users of SPSS. Additionally, JASP provides many Bayesian statistical methods. A list below shows JASP alternatives which were either selected by us or voted for by users.
